About Voice Lessons

Whether you’re singing for the first time, returning to music after a long break, preparing for auditions, or pursuing professional goals, voice lessons can help you sing with greater confidence, freedom, and expression. While opera and classical music are my primary performance specialties, I work with singers in a variety of styles, including musical theater, contemporary worship, and popular music. I specialize in teaching adult students, from absolute beginners to emerging professionals.

You may be looking to:
• Learn the fundamentals of healthy singing
• Eliminate vocal strain and sing with greater ease
• Develop confidence as a performer
• Improve vocal technique and artistic expression
• Prepare for choir, theater, college, or professional auditions • Sing more freely and sustainably as a worship leader
• Strengthen performance mindset and overcome anxiety
• Receive coaching in diction, interpretation, and stage presence
• Prepare opera, musical theater, or art song repertoire

My teaching emphasizes healthy vocal production, efficiency, freedom, and expressive communication. Lessons are tailored to your individual goals and designed to help you build a voice that is both technically reliable and artistically authentic.

With a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance, extensive performance experience, and advanced study with respected voice teachers and pedagogues, I bring both practical knowledge and proven teaching experience to every lesson. Voice lessons are typically 60 minutes in length. We begin with vocal exercises and technique, then apply those concepts directly to your repertoire so that healthy singing becomes a natural part of performance. Lessons are available in my Sarasota home studio or online via Zoom. If you’re looking for knowledgeable, encouraging instruction that meets you where you are and helps you move forward with confidence, I’d be delighted to speak with you about your goals.

Google Reviews from current and former students:

“I have experienced working with Martha not only as a student, but also collaboratively as a composer. She is an absolute joy. As a teacher, she encourages and adapts to different learning styles to teach her students how to teach and help themselves grow in their skills. As a fellow artist, Martha really invests in the projects she believes in. She does everything in her power to do justice to the message of a piece of music, and everyone I’ve seen her work with has had a wonderful time with it. I can’t speak highly enough of my dear Ms. Lopez.” – N.C.

“Martha is an incredible Opera Singer also gifted with the ability to teach. Martha goes beyond an average instructor who masters their own talent and simple pass it on to others, rather she is also able to identify potential, hidden gifts in students and bring them all to life.” – V.T.

“I took voice lessons with Martha for 3 years with a focus on art song and opera arias. As a teacher she was able to meet me where I was at in my vocal development from a pretty early beginner to a preparing for university auditions and performing a 20 minute recital. During lessons Martha is encouraging and kind while employing her vocal knowledge in order to provide effective constructive criticism which allowed me to develop my skills over the course of my lessons with her. She was always realistic about my skill level and assigned appropriate material for me to work on. She is also a very competent pianist so she is able to accompany students during lessons for the full experience. All around Martha is a wonderful teacher who I would highly recommend!” – E.A.
